Kaluba
This painting is dedicated to the lingering problems within Nigeria's socio economic infrastructure and is supposed to correlate with "£865k". This piece is also based on Burna Boy’s “Dangote” music video. This video has so much to offer to the viewer visually and holds a deep, yet vivid message. The upper half of the composition consists of the pink table and televisions displayed at the end of the music video, as well as money falling from the sky. Each television screen consists of a different word (money, inflation, & politics) as those three topics directly correspond with one another and are the main determinants of economic health. The bottom half of the composition consists of a street with a yellow bus parked there. This landscape/scene was based on a real picture that I took in Agbada Owo, Nigeria two years ago. There's a small girl watching a group of scammers step out of the bus and it appears that the scenery is relatively tranquil. However, with close observation, one would be able to notice an AK-47 gun barrel aimed directly at the men stepping out of the vehicle. Being that the danger has been minimized within the composition, it serves as the "surprise factor" in the piece and further emphasizes the "quiet in the storm" theme.
